How We're Celebrating Earth Day Today and Every Day
Earth Day 2023
At Beaulieu Vineyard, environmental wellness is key to crafting exceptional wines. For over a century at Beaulieu Vineyard, we have placed great importance on preserving the stunning natural surroundings of the Napa Valley. Our dedication to sustainability and eco-conscious farming practices is a testament to our ongoing celebration of Earth Day.
“Improved sustainability has become a key focal point in every facet of wine production at Beaulieu. In the vineyard, we are doing things such as eliminating inorganic sprays of any kind, moving to mechanical weeding, composting, irrigation refinement and innovative practices such as use of biochar. In the winery, we of course look for any way to reduce the use of water & energy and are working toward a goal of zero waste to landfill. All of these practices will improve the quality of our wines over time and will leave the Napa Valley as a better place for future winemakers.”
- Trevor Durling, Beaulieu Vineyard Chief Winemaker

Water
We’re proud to be Fish Friendly Farming certified. This means we’ve created a comprehensive plan to ensure we’re conserving water, minimizing the use of chemicals, maintaining the health of our soils, and preserving the creek and river ecosystems that run through our vineyards.
Soil
The soil in our vineyards is a crucial part of our legacy. André Tchelistcheff recognized early on how special the dirt in Rutherford is, later coining the term “Rutherford Dust” to describe its unique smell and the flavors it creates in wine. Today the phrase reflects an enduring commitment to quality and a deep connection to Rutherford’s soil. Winemaker Trevor Durling and his team are constantly monitoring the health of the soil and using cover crops and trellising to reduce the use of harsh chemicals and keep it full of nutrients.
Zero Waste
Our goal is to understand exactly where our waste goes and to implement specific strategies to reduce it throughout the winemaking process and in the running of our facilities. This means educating employees and visitors on proper recycling practices, running waste audits, and staying up to date with new conservation technology.
