Tasting Notes

Our inaugural release of this Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc is a beautiful expression from vines located within the heart of the valley, offering fragrant notes of Meyer lemon, white peach, orange blossom, and bright pineapple, alongside more subtle oak notes of brioche toast and marzipan. The palate provides a focused mouthfeel up front, bursting with ripe citrus fruits, lasting in length, finishing round and rich with a luscious core of depth, vibrancy, and persistence. Extremely balanced and pleasing, this Sauvignon Blanc is crisp and lively with mouthwatering character, inviting sip after sip. Enjoy on its own as a refreshing aperitif or pair with charcuterie platters, mixed salads, and lighter fish or chicken dishes.

“A brand-new wine for the Beaulieu portfolio, this Sauvignon Blanc is both energetic and refreshing. Tropical fruits and brightening citrus notes are accented with flavors of smashed almonds and layered spices. Concentration and length complete this satisfying wine.” -Elaine Chukan Brown, Wine Enthusiast, December 2024

“The 2021 Sauvignon Blanc is a beautiful wine that marries bright varietal aromatics with lovely depth. White flowers, sage, mint, tomato leaf and lemon oil give this airy, weightless Sauvignon Blanc a good deal of complexity.” — Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Winemaking

After hand harvesting and gently pressing the clusters, the juice was fermented with specifically selected yeast to enhance the wine’s intense fruit expression. Malolactic fermentation was blocked to preserve the pure fruit character. A majority of the wine was fermented in stainless steel barrels while a small portion was fermented and aged in new French oak. The oak aided in increasing flavor complexity and richness of texture through bâtonnage (stirring) and sur lie (on the yeast) aging.

Vintage

The 2023 season unfolded with ideal weather conditions. Heavy winter and early spring rains alleviated the drought, refilling groundwater reserves and reservoirs. Increased soil moisture led to healthy vines and delayed budbreak. Cooler weather created longer hang times and a prolific harvest that began significantly later than usual, in early September. Overall, the quality of the 2023 harvest proved to be exceptional. The prolonged ripening resulted in a harmoniously balanced structure with brilliant color and freshness.

Vineyard

This wine shows a true sense of place, coming from outstanding sites in the Rutherford and Oakville American Viticultural Areas (AVAs), with the majority from our own estate vineyards on the Eastern Rutherford bench. Rutherford and Oakville, in the heart of Napa Valley, provide the perfect climate and soils ideal for Sauvignon Blanc. Each vineyard block was picked at peak maturity and fermented separately to increase the complexity of the wine. Sauvignon Blanc grapes grown in Rutherford and Oakville create a wine that is rich and round with tropical fruit undertones.
