Our 2019 Reserve Carneros Chardonnay offers lovely vibrant citrus aromas with fresh apple, citrus blossom, honeysuckle and subtle hints of brioche and butter. On the palate there are layers of creamy lemon curd, candied lemon peel, crisp green apple with a kiss of white pepper spice. The oak shows nuances of graham cracker crust and is a pleasant backdrop supporting the core of crisp acidity and fruit underpinning the overall round and mouth-watering complexity of the wine, leading to a long, dry, clean, refreshing finish. The inviting aromas, flavors, creamy texture and persistent acidity show a well-integrated wine that is incredibly food friendly pairing with all of your favorite meals.

We harvested the Chardonnay grapes into small bins at night and rushed them to our winery. After gently pressing the whole clusters, we barrel fermented thirty percent of the wine in small oak barrels to add layers of flavor and texture complexity, while the remaining blend was fermented in stainless steel tanks. Once in barrel, stirring the lees (yeast) during the 10 months of aging enhanced the silky mouthfeel, and integrated creamy nuances from partial malolactic fermentation.
Beaulieu Vineyard Winemaker Trevor Durling, presides as only the fifth winemaker in the winery’s 119-year history. A native Californian, Trevor was raised in Sonoma County, the heart of Northern California’s wine country. With a love of agriculture, science and cuisine, Trevor pursued his studies at the University of California Davis in the Viticulture and Enology program. As winemaker at Beaulieu Vineyard, Trevor incorporates his passion for creating fine wines, while preserving the heritage and legacy of Beaulieu Vineyard.
The 2019 harvest started one to two weeks later than previous years, mostly due to February rains, but because the vines were in their winter dormancy, it did not affect the 2019 crop. Spring continued to be wet with some rain during flowering, followed by cool temperatures that allowed the grapes to mature gradually. Most grapes ripened at lower sugars, thanks to the extended, cool growing season, and winemakers were pleased with the full flavors, fresh acidity and superb balance of the 2019 fruit. Wildfires in October did not impact this year’s harvest as the vast majority of the grapes were already brought in, resulting in a crop size pretty much on par with previous years.
We selected most of the grapes from our Beaulieu Vineyard Ranch No. 8 as well as some specific parcels from Ranch No. 9, where the vines, grafted to Dijon clones 95, 76 and Robert Young clone, yield small, intensely flavored berries. These Chardonnay vineyards are located in the cool, windy Los Carneros American Viticultural Area (AVA) at the southernmost tip of Napa Valley. The region’s shallow clay loam soils and marine-influenced climate foster ripe, beautifully balanced Chardonnay expression.
