The 2019 Touriga Nacional is obsidian-like with an expressive core of dark macerated blackberry, blueberry and violet. Notes of sweet baking spices cross the palate and are followed by dark red raspberry flavors from the light oak integration. With a rich structure that leaves room for bright acidity, the wine finishes with soft, velvety tannins. This unique varietal is not often seen in Napa and will be a fun and surprising find for many.

The fruit was harvested in the cool of the morning and brought to the winery where the berries were gently sorted and destemmed. The grapes cold-soaked 5 days to gently ease color and flavor. During the roughly 12-day fermentation, timely pump overs kept the skins in contact with the juice for excellent flavor and tannin extraction. The wine spent 16 months in French oak (40% new)before being blended, giving the final wine tremendous complexity and grace.

The Napa Valley region experienced a cool, wet start to the 2019 growing season, which caused the grapes to mature gradually and develop full flavors, vibrant acidity, and superb balance. Wildfires in October did not have an effect on the year’s harvest as the vast majority of the grapes had already been brought in. The resulting 2019 wines are of very high quality, with concentrated flavors and excellent acidity.
