Our 2018 Madame de Latour is an elegant expression of an exceptional vintage. The powerful nose is layered with cassis, black cherry, wild sage, rose and violet. Subtle barrel notes of clove and espresso are also present and add incredible complexity to the aroma and flavor profile. On the palate there is a dense, plush core with a bounty of juicy, perfectly ripe black fruits, dried herb, and dark chocolate. The rich and velvety mouthfeel and fine-grained tannins integrate seamlessly with the fresh acidity to create an infinitely balanced wine with a lengthy, mouthwatering finish. To enjoy this wine at its full potential, we recommend two to five years of bottle ageing; however, if you can’t wait, decant before serving.

After hand harvesting, the grapes were immediately delivered to the winery. The grapes were destemmed and cold soaked 5 days to gently ease color and flavor. During the roughly 12-day fermentation, timely pump overs kept the skins in contact with the juice for excellent flavor and tannin extraction. The wine spent 20 months in 94% new French oak barrels giving the final wine softened tannins and beautiful toasty barrel notes.
The Napa Valley region enjoyed a stunning, near picture-perfect 2018 growing season including good winter rains, mild spring weather and steady temperatures throughout that allowed for even flowering and bud break. These ideal growing conditions were followed by a cool, even and slow-paced harvest which allowed the winery to vinify wines at a gentle pace. The resulting 2018 Cabernets are of very high quality with plenty of concentrated flavors, color and excellent acidity.
