The 2015 Maestro Collection Ranch No. 1 is a Bordeaux-style blend from our historic vineyard in Rutherford. Cabernet Sauvignon is the predominant varietal but Merlot (16%) and Petit Verdot (6%) round out the final blend. The Cabernet Sauvignon offers bright aromas of fresh blackberry, Earl Grey tea, and clove spice notes while the Merlot brings juicy fruit and a lush texture to the palate. The small amount of Petit Verdot packs a punch - adding firm yet supple tannin structure, deep color and exotic aromas and flavors of wild violets and pomegranate.Technical Information

Winemaking
After hand harvesting, the grapes were immediately brought across the street into the winery. The grapes were destemmed and crushed and cold soaked for 2 to 4 days to gently ease color and flavor. During the 10 to 12-day fermentation, timely pumpovers kept the skins in contact with the juice for excellent flavor and tannin extraction. The wine spent 20 months in 80% new French oak and 20% new American oak barrels giving the final wine softened tannins and beautiful toasty barrel notes.Vintage
Napa Valley received 75% of its normal rainfall in the winter prior to the 2015 harvest but the cumulative effect of four years of drought resulted in a light crop. Fortunately, the vintage made up for the small quantity by yielding outstanding grape quality. The small clusters and dry, warm conditions promoted an early, condensed harvest. The wines of 2015 are highly concentrated with complex flavors and the ability to age.Vineyard
